Gecofest.12 - As Never Before.
What a show!
The Final Year students have outdone themselves.
The stage decor was out of the world and one could only gape at the innovation and aesthetics behind its creation.
For me, personally, the best moment was the mime on SriLanka by the III Year girls. The lead performer, Sowmiya, brought tears to one's eyes as the loving, joyful teacher who is inconsolable at the loss of her wards' lives in a bombshell. I wept, as I cannot even imagine such a scenario and yet, it's happening, somewhere in the world.
The JAM session had livewires in Sathya, Prashanth, Mukund, Suren and others who held us in mirthful thrall, as we watched open mouthed at the aggressive, humorous and electric performances by the contestants.
The short films were a category apart...the horror flick by the CSE department was quite professional and well directed. Another winner,'Luck' was well strung and had a strong story line. Their audio recording and BGM was of the finest quality. Wow, I see a few stars in the making. And, the casts of stars in all the films were like seasoned artists - emoting and dubbing so perfectly, with no trace of self consciousness anywhere.
The dances - Eastern, Western, Street, On the Spot, et al, zapped me. How they manage to execute such intricate and complex steps remains a mystery to me.
As for the discipline, it was magnificent. Students proved that they were there for fun, frolic and merriment and nothing more. Kudos to the Mechanical Department Students, endowed with the task of Discipline Committee for carrying out their responsibilities in such a mature manner and for showing everyone that as always, they excel in whatever they do.
The MCs on both the days were incomparable. Mr.Prabhakaran/Mech has a future in MCing.
ELA under the stewardship of Uday showed the audience the truth about themselves - they are a match for anyone in the country with their language skills.
It is gladdening to the heart that new talents crop up, are identified and nurtured by the Students Union. Congrats to Mr.Prashanth/Meta and his team of other Secretaries for a GECOFEST.12 well organised and which fully deserves the caption - As Never Before. They had toiled in the face of many hurdles and achieved something that we adults can achieve only with the help of experience and resources.
As one who had literally lived it out in the Audi for the two days, due to my inability to move about caused by a crack in the bone - it was a kind of yogic meditation, as I gathered in full measure the positive energy of so many hundreds of joyful young people. I bet my bone will set faster because of the positive vibrations at the auditorium. God bless all our kids for their creative energies, their full throttled enjoyment of the events and for the sense of whole hearted participation.
GCE, only you can do this.
