I feel like jumping vigorously, shaking a leg or two, doing a jig and yipeeing to the open skies...Kamaraj, an old student of the college from the 1970 batch, based in Dubai was in college today and he has short listed 8 students - 1 from Mechanical, 6 from EEE and 1 from Civil.

My extreme reaction stems from the fact that these shortlisted children had been facing pangs of anxiety and dips in their self-esteem level,, cos they hadn't been selected due to some reason or the other by the corporate giants of India and here comes their saviour holding out his hands to his juniors, all becase he has implicit and unshakeable faith in the ability of a GCEian.

As the Principal, Dr. Ebenezer Jeyakumar remarked, ' Intha mathiri veri varanum...namma college paiyyan place aganum enra veri varanum ovoru old studentukkum- PSG placement intha mathiri thaan aguthu' (All old students must have this ferocious desire to see his college students placed in good jobs. PSG placements are largely due to loyalty to the alma mater and wholehearted effort by PSG alumni).

Kamaraj, God bless you and all the GCEian alumni who are taking efforts in their own ways to put GCE on the global map. You do not know how much joy you have put in an old woman's heart, since I have seen these children start their professional studies from really challenged backgrounds and seen them also rise to perfect their technical skills and communication skills. The world is still alright.

Good to hear the news! I think the number of placements will go up in the future, due to the efforts of faculties like you and a few GCE alumni. And again, our students are more competitive and aggressive in pursuing their dreams, that helps a lot! A resurgent India ....

Oh, well...I don't really think that I can claim any role in these. Honestly. It is entirely due to the earnest effort of each student and the Principal and the student Placement Secretary play THE role in placements. You won't believe the restless, fatigue filled days that our boys go through in bringing in companies, seeing to their comfort, making arrangements for venues in the departments, for online tests, for the catering, and meeting the demands of companies regarding infrastructure and facilities. That is where our kids score.

Dear Nagarajan, Muthu and Srini,
Congrats to all of you...the pride you take in this is touching. I would really call it (getting to know of the visit) only as a chance meeting in the lounge since the boys, if I may call them, were leaving the Principal's room after a meeting with him and we were on our way in. It was just a pleasant nod at them and only when we went into the Principal's room, did he happen to mention this and I was personally so happy that GCEians take their role in their alma mater's development so seriously. And of greater happiness to me is the fact that one of the boys selected by Kamaraj has very often spoken to me of his family, his responsibilities and his failure to bag a job and it used to be long talks consoling him and his other friends. I am glad that through Kamaraj these children are getting a break in life. God bless all of you.
Dear Naadodi, I shall surely check your blog. And of course, Muthu, whom I know very well and Srini, my blogpal, it's been a pleasure to hear from you both.

Dear Madam Chitra,

While we take pride in having Mr. Kamarajan, as our founder-president of GCE alummis in UAE, we also are very pleased that his efforts and service are recognized by one of the faculty. We are very much sure about the abilities of GCEans and are happy to note they get direct overseas placements. hope other alumni batches will follow suit.

A request to you. Kindly initiate your efforts in starting an official GCE Alumni website or make it more active if its already there.

Thanks and Regards.

Dear Mrs. Lakshmi,

I am S.Vasudevan of 1982 batch - mechanical branch. Today I came to know about your blog thru' a classmate of mine; got curious; visited and got bowled over..

My eyes are filled with the tears of joy.. You have taken me down the memory lanes of our times..

I am happy that the artistic talents of the students are thriving and they are getting more opportunities.. Thank you very much for updating the GCEians world over on the happenings in GCE.

During Silver Jubilee gathering at Yercaud during Dec-07, my classmates planned to launch a charity fund to support the needy GCEians. Your inputs will be helpful.

In addition to the placement, in what other ways we can be of support to the present and future day GCEians?

Dear Vasudevan, you were here in Salem sometime back? That is wonderful. I heard that it was a happy get together at Star Holidays. Am happy that GCEians have such strong bonds with their alma mater even after so many years.
As for your offer to help, thank you. Yes, I am sure that the alumni can really help in a number of ways. For instance, a student of ours got an offer from a U.S. company following an online application. He came to the department seeking advice. We did ask him to write to the Embassy to first check if the company is a genuine one. I now realise that a request to the alumni might've clarified matters more quickly for the boy, since your network is global. I shall defintely check if the student has received any feedback and shall ask him to contact the alumni.
Thank you for writing in.

Dear Shabir, thank you for the comment you've left here. I never did imagine that GCEians had spread their wings so far and wide. As for the official alumni website, our boys manage it, since there is a lot of protocol like passwords and contacting the website manager, etc. I am afraid that anything official might stop me from being myself. However, there is a very nice alumni website managed by Singaravelan Narayanasami. A lot of children are getting in touch with the alumni for help on careers, studies abroad, etc. Do check it.
Happy reading.

Dear Madam Chitra Lakshimi,

Certainly we can assist in such reference checks.. GCEians and their friends are there all over the globe..

Reecently, I did such verification for a company in US and found that to be a non-reliable company..

You may forward such requests to me or shabir or vasanth.. we will post it in our Yahoo!group and try to get the required assistance..

With Warm Regards,
S.Vasudhevan
